Finally got the chance to stop at Kreuz Market in Lockhart for lunch on Tuesday. Love the smell, and the nostalgia, bit the food was pretty meh. Meh enough that I see no reason to go back. I've eaten at Black's a couple of times as well, and I have to say that Lockhart is over-rated in the BBQ game.

For the record, I was going to make the trip to Snows, but saw that they were closed.

City Market was one of my favorites, but I got food poisoning from there back in September.

I’ve eaten at Kreuz many times and it’s always been legit. Will probably stop in there this weekend.

I've always approached Bar B Q joints and their food with the fact that Brisket is a horrible piece of meat that takes hours upon hours of slow cooking just to make it edible, much less good. I'm not in the business, but can only imagine that the art of cooking consistently great brisket day in, and day out, has to be a huge challenge. The quality of the meat probably varies greatly from batch to batch, month to month.

So, while there will always be different opinions about this place or that place, there are two things that should stand above all the rest. You're eating Texas BBQ and it isn't some type of processed fast food joint. In other words, I'll take bad BBQ from some independent small town smoke house that's been hard at it for their entire life over just about any processed fast food joint with some snot nosed kid shoveling fries into a cardboard box.
