Question: I'm thinking of upgrading my fish finder on my pilot Pescador 12.0 to the Lowrance Hook revel 9 TripleShot. They've got them on sale through academy right now @ 44% off. Anyone have experience using a 9-inch screen on a kayak? Or does anyone have experience using this specific unit? I'm currently using a previous Lowrance hook series model with a 3-inch screen and only down imaging and 2-D sonar. I ask in this section of the forum as I've been primarily fishing for crappie.

Side imaging is a game changer for finding structure. and 9 inch would be smallest screen i would want for side imaging even on a kayak. no experience with the reveal model but i'm sure it will be a huge upgrade.

Be aware that the Lowrance 3in1 transducer is BIG. It's like 9 or 10 inches long so you'll need to give some thought about how to mount it. Just letting it stick out from the back looks like a good way to me to break it off.

Thanks, Texan and Dude, read it was a 10-inch transducer. I'm thinking of getting a mount and putting the transducer on the side, but there are more than a few ways to rig it.

I have a Hobie PA14. I went from a Humminbird Helix 7 MEGA SI to a Garmin Ultra 106SV.

So I went from a 7” screen to a 10” screen. Yeah, it’s beefy on the Kayak, but I Love it. It is Not Too Big. It’s Just Right. You certainly won’t be unhappy with the 9” screen. As far as the Lowrance goes, I have no experience. As much as I liked the HB Helix. . . I love the Garmin that much more.

Go for it.

I was just looking and saw that 9” Lowrance at academy for $499. That is a good deal. But I also saw that Bass Pro and Dick’s have the Garmin 93sv with the gt-54 Transducer on sale for $699. IF. . . If you can swing the extra $200, I recommend you get the Garmin. I didn’t think id do much better than the Humminbird, but I Really like this Garmin.

Before I got my Ultra 106sv, I purchased the 93sv. I hadn’t installed it yet and Bass Pro put the 106sv on sale for 50% off. I went ahead and but the bullet and got the bigger screen. If you can bite the bullet for $200, I think the Garmin is the better unit.

Others can weigh in on this.

Just a thought.

I would move up to the Elite FS as I am hearing that the update ratio on the Hook Reveal is very slow...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. That deal on Academy passed, even though it was supposed to last for an additional 2 days... hmmm

I went with your suggestion Jezreel and pulled the trigger on the Garmin 93sv w/GT54 Transducer. Looking forward to getting it on water. smile

I have the 93 on mine. You'll like it. Get your speed set appropriately and try to stay witihn 40ft on sidescan. Your images will be better.
