How are they working for you? and did you have any side effects when 1st started taking them?
Dr suggested a statin (Crestor) back in April as I was borderline high (203). I reluctantly said sure, as my numbers had been going down each year to where it is now. Have felt like [censored] (Body Aches, Back Pain, Exhaustion, Dizziness at times, etc.) since taking it, and finally figured it was due to statin over the last week. Emailed Dr and said they will send in a script for another one as some effect each person differently with side effects noted. After not taking it for 2 days I feel great again, and I'm like WTF am I doing and do I really need this.
I don't consider myself as risk as we really don't have any stroke or heart disease in the family, Not Obese, Don't smoke/drink, but wondering is this just a HDL/LDL numbers game or what.

I just quit mine. Horrible backpack pains and dizziness. Both times I used them ended badly.

Made my body aches and RA much worse. I've got to behave with my diet instead.

There is a lot of different information out there on statins...not a big fan from what I've read, but fortunately I don't need one. I was doing some research after this topic was mentioned on the THF. My mom was on one for a short term and she hated it and ended up at the hospital ER due to its effects. I had forgotten about it until the THF thread.

I will say this, there was a thread on Metamucil last year and I think it was lanman that said he had been taking it and it was the only thing that really helped him with his cholesterol after trying everything else. I use Metamucil for its primary effects since my intestines have become a bit lazy since my back surgery and Metamucil has gotten me off prune juice.

I am doing the Crestor thing without any ill effects. I was reluctant to take it after reading about possible side effects. Did a 90 trial without any problems and then continued. Waiting to see if it does any good. My total cholesterol was around 200 but my hdl/ldl numbers were not what the Dr. was happy about.

I take crestor as well (rosuvastatin generic), the only common side affect I think I have from it is the pain and stiffness at the base of my thumbs, and I mean they lock the heck up. I’ve had a few friends tell me they had the same thumb issue while on statins. My cholesterol numbers are ridiculous low, but I am a heart patient so I have to keep it low.

I have taken rosuvastatin for several years with no side effects. It has made my numbers come down to normal. Per doctor's advice I take CoQ10 to supplement it.

Statins are quirky. Sometimes you have to adjust pills and dosages until you find the right mix that works for you. Also, this is one area that generic medication is not advised. Since minute variations can trigger side effects you really don't want the brand X that is made cheaper and with lower quality standards.
I find it interesting that this was prescribed given your numbers are borderline and have been dropping over the past few years. Seems to me like you could keep up what you are doing and continue to bring them down naturally? Maybe there is some reason your doc is looking for a more immediate drop.

I've taken statins for probably 15 years and about every 3-4 years I have to swittch types due to back or sholder pain... i'm told having to switch brands every few years is pretty common for statin users.....I take rosuvastatin now and I've taken and had to give up baycol, lipitor and crestor in the past...

I first tried Lipitor and doc said it was not working. He then put me on Pravastatin and that did not work. Then we tried Crestor and that worked. Been on it for 4 plus years with no issues. I always have muscle and joint pains due to my age and job so I don’t know if it’s worse since taking it.

rosuvastatin here. About a year now. No side effects. Maybe hiccups a few times (listed side-effect) Mrs RayBob did some diet change and took OTC CholestOff and dropped about 50-60 points
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.
