My daughter will be returning to college this week to UMHB for her junior year and our family will be taking her down to Belton on Thursday. We have rented an Airbnb on Lake Belton and my 15 year old son and I will be doing a little fishing in the mornings while the ladies are doing whatever ladies do! lol. We will be staying through Sunday and I am taking the boat.

Any suggestions for either lake as I have never been on either one would be appreciated.

I have spent the past 50 years spitting in their mouths...increasing the size of Texas fish with every spit!

Really clear and deep water, 90% of your structure is drop offs, points, and ledges.

You can run Belton all over without issue, just swing wide on the points. My time on Stillhouse is limited, but I’m pretty sure you can run the whole lake too without issue.

Keep an eye out on Belton for schooling white bass. Had a blast doing that last time I was there, it was insane!! And it was summer time..

If you fish late late evening or early early morning at the dam or the banks around the dam, you’ll have a decent chance at some smallmouth… crawfish color rattle trap, drop shot, etc.. Have fun and good luck. BEAUTIFUL lakes

Maybe someone else can provide more info on Stillhouse. Only been on it for a limited amount of time

Both lakes are really low right now. Use plenty of caution running either one, particularly Belton west of BLORA and north of McGregor Park. Same goes for Stillhouse west of Cedar Gap.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, Belton has plenty of standing timber in relatively deep water that can hold fish right now (usually submerged but much of it is visible at the moment).

Stillhouse is gin clear and full of hydrilla out to about 25ft. Look for isolated patches around 25ft or so and work them with a big worm or a ned rig. I have caught a few decent fish doing that recently.

Of course this is just my recent experience on both lakes, I am sure others will have their own input as well. Good luck.

I also read on the Texas Parks FB, last week, that Belton is redoing some of their roads into to the parks / ramps. You may be limited to a few ramps on Belton. It may be worth the call to their office to confirm which ramps are open.

Stillhouse is like 7ft low and still dropping. Grass all over. Be super careful running. Last weekend I was literally running the middle of the creek channel and there were trees in the middle. Bout gave me a heart attack.
