I have just recently purchased two older Penn senator 14/0. Is there any difference between the old ones and the newer ones? Also I was planning on spooling them with 400 yards of 150 pound power pro and the rest with 150 pound mono. Unless I can do 130# braid and 150# mono for extra capacity ?Should I have more or less braid and is power pro a good brand? Also would you go heavier or lighter on the lines?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'd put on a 300 yard topshot of heavy mono (80#-100#) for abrasion resistance from sandbars, then spool the rest underneath with 100# spectra. You be good for anything you're likely to hook into.

I use 100 pound power pro with 80 pound top shot Berkley pro spec on my Avet 30, but regular Berkley big game would be fine. I have caught lots of big sharks on the rig. I fish for records, and if you exceed #130 pounds, you eliminate the possibility of an IGFA world record. Leader can be larger test.

Consider spooling with hollowcore braid. You can splice the top shot on in a seamless, knot free transition. I’ve heard good things about Momoi hollowcore, and it’s very reasonably priced. I’m about to try some 80# on my Avet 30W with a topshot of 80# monofilament.
