I know this is a strange request, but I will be in Panama City, FL next Sunday. Does anyone know a good guide? I was going to try a bait shop called Half Hitch for some advice also. Was also going to try surf fishing with squid and Carolina rigs. Does that sound about right? Did this in the Atlantic on the Outer Banks in NC with some sucess. Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!

Capt. Mike outta P. City..
and if you go to Destin about an hour away Tommy Browning, FinestKind@westdestin.com, comes highly recommended.

I fished the Pheonix out of Destin in May. He is probably booked but you can try Harborwalk Fishing Charters. They can group you with other singles to make a 6 to 8 person charter. I don't have the links but if you go to www.emeraldcoast.com there is a lot of information about charters from Pensacola to PC. As a kid, I spent my summers in a little town outside of Panama City called Wewahitchka. There is a jetty at the state park in Panama City Beach. It was shortened, I believe, you can still catch mackeral and an occasional red there. Every once and awhile the jacks will run up and down the rocks close enough to touch. There is a pier in Panama City but I never had much luck there. There is a pier in Fort Walton Beach that we would catch mackeral off of regularly. Watched a guy fight a huge hammerhead (probably 6-8 feet but I was, again, a little kid) for about 4 hours. He was using what we called at the time a jewfish rig. The first run we poured water on the reel to cool it down. By the third run the drag was shot. The fourth run did the bearings in and that was all she wrote. Would have gladly given the cost of a $150 reel for that fight. You may also still be able to fish off of the Tyndal bridge (if it is still there) in the bay in Panama City. Caught mostly croaker and some blues there. I don't know a good place to surf fish but again, the emerald coast link may help you out there as well. Good luck and let me know if I can give you any more information.

Thank you jnd and eagle for all your info. I found a bait shop called Half Hitch I was going to visit when we get to town. Hopefully they can tell me if we are in the right direction for surf fishing. It sounds like Destin is the place to go for a guide. Will let you know how we do!
Thanks again!
