Milo or Wheat ,this year I mixed the two. I like to use it on a hard bottom. If the bottom is soft I use Range Cubes.

So today on Fork I had range cubes and soured hen scratch. Both worked really well and I saw little difference in quality and numbers of fish. Seldom Was my line in the water for over a minute without a bite. What I did notice was when I used the cubes it took about 10 minutes for the fishing to really pick up. With the hen scratch it was less than 5. I think the cubes take just a little time to dissolve but both worked extremely well today. It almost seems like cheating!

MO I've read some of Capt. Michael Littlejohns posts where he said the same thing. When I used the wheat it worked well for me. Only thing is it does cost more and my feed store always has to order it. Good Luck, Bozz

When I have used the range cubes, all it ever brought in was carp, which don't get me wrong I love to catch those as well. The really big ones are like a truck. I am all about the trophy fish anymore, so it's catch, pix and back in the lake.
Now the cheese cake chunks you can get at the feed store is what my grandfather always liked. Remember that as a kid and it worked well, that and a Coleman lantern lol.
I have a really great led light now I hang of the Transom of the boat and about 2' deep keeps bugs and minnows all around, least the light and live bait and/or cut bait if I don't have live.
Now any of you guys try the black Sally's, these guys are good, frisky and hardy as any live bait I have ever used. Everything loves them also. Work in saltwater also for a few hours, long as you bait tank them in fresh. The remind me of croakers if I had to describe them.
I have not used chum in years. Led light and live bait at night works really well if they are biting and I find them lol.

For those that don't know, if you're souring grain ( specifically maize) If you have it shut up tightly in the container, it may well explode. I found that out the hard way a long time ago. I had some tightly sealed buckets of maize in my boat, and it was shook up pretty good from the ride to the lake and the rough water ride out to the spot. When I stopped and was ready to start scattering it, the lid on the one bucket popped and stinky maize and stinky maize water blew all over me and the inside of my boat. It was a mess

Max, Dang man I can only imagine how that was, it does stink and to wear it, oh man. Then you have that all in the boat, that is a whole new level. I have told more than a few guys with these killer rigged to the 9's boat that they needed to go out in the lake setup a good drift and have something to drink while admiring their rig. Finish off the drink and then just pee all over the front deck. Then just tell them now you can honestly enjoy the boat while fishing lol. Now Catfish Tim disagreed about the peeing all over the front deck, but I bet he won't disagree that that soured maze all inside your boat is in a different bad thing...

Good Luck, Bozz Daddy was a custom wheat harvester so we always had extra grain in the truck beds or the combine bin...he kept a 55 gal barrel soured at all times...have to keep water on it or the maggots will eat on it...the "juice" is like calf slobber...whew...it stinks

Have a friend that used some chum....soybeans. Caught some nice fish but when they were in the live well they were burping up the soybeans. Seems like any grain will work so long as it has soured.
Do you have comerants (sp), we call them chit birds. They will stay in the trees that are in the lake (hedge). Channel cats will congregate under the trees where the birds have roosted to eat the chit. Can be very fast at times....

I use milo.
I have tried Black Salties a few times and can't catch anything with those darn things.
