I used them at my uncles pond when I was younger and would catch crappie on them all the time. Black Crappie especially eat more insects than white crappie but both will eat them

As a child we used to fish Caddo Lake a whole lot for Bream and we would catch the occasional Crappie using Grey Crickets around Cypress Trees. They weren't being targeted, just happen to be in the wrong place and hungry.
