I was gifted an old LCI Striker SPR764 that I plan on doing a modest refurb on. It looks like it has been kept in the hay barn for 40 years after heavy use. Structurally it is just fine, guides are all good and no dings in the shaft. Cork only has a few nicks here and there but really grimy. The finish on the rod itself could be better but a good cleaning will help. So my plan is a really good scrubbing then start on the cork.. Going to do a light sand, soap and water, a finish sand then try the wood filler trick and a finish sand. The rod will get a polish with compound and possibly a little lacquer spray, duno we'll see after the polish.

Now the controversial part, I'm not sure what the official designation of the SPR764 is supposed to be but it's a little longer than I prefer at 7'6" and seems really slow and weak on power ML ?? Granted I have not fished this rod. So my sinful thinking was maybe take about 4 inches off the top to about the distal edge of the first guide? I'm not committed to this action and maybe I should fish it first as is, Just looking for some insight. Info on the interweb about this rod is pretty much non existent.
Also have an old attic stored Kencor that will get a good cleaning.

I’ve seen LCI rods sell on eBay for somewhere around $100. I would try it before modifying
These rods were designed by Gary Loomis and Don Mook in the early 1980’s with standard 96%graphite

Yeah, I agree now that I have it looking pretty darn good I will keep it as is. If I feel like I just really need another rod I'll stick with St Croix or TFO.
