When navigating with the outboard I run the front 2 lights and shut off the 4 side lights. Twin 400 Watt HPS definitely light the way. Never had one of you keyboard cowboys or a game warden say a thing to me about it…..
I also have the coast guard required marker lights as well.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

Anyone arguing that you can’t run with a light at night needs to have their head examined and are just flat wrong. Spend some time on the inter coastal. Do you see wardens stopping barges for running lights? Of course you don’t want to blind people but use some common sense. Sweeping a handheld light on occasion as you run could save your life.

Do you run across the lake on plane shining a spotlight while frog hunting?

Yep, a lot of people who boat in the salt have spotlights or led bars. I have a led bar on my t-top that saved me the second time I almost hit someone. I was heading back in after dark and less than a mile from our vacation rental in the Keys in a 24' center console - about a 6000-pound boat when gassed. I'm probably running about 30-35mph, when out of nowhere a small johnboat appears. It wasn't as close a call as the kayakers, but I guarantee that guy got a good rocking from the wake. It was close enough that it took me a few minutes to calm down. The fool was out with no lights in a place where big boats run. If I hadn't been standing up on the footrest bar to have a better view over the center console, I probably would not have seen him.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

On lakes with the moon shining and no shore lights I can see whats in front of me pretty well.
When running with lights shining on me even from the shore lights in my field of vision I have questions about what I am seeing, constantly.

You just can't see under that and no light situations. I run slow speeds and have an led flashlight with a narrow beamwidth for those situations.
I use it responsibly and when I see a boat underway I make sure I don't interfere with his view or try to blind him.

Anyone saying follow the law?
Your light stops others from seeing your red and green lights.
Others can no longer tell which direction you are running.
You are breaking the law and endangering everyone else so you can see.
Learn to drive at night or don't go out.

If the light is on your face he's running at you. If its on the left side of your face he'll pass by on the left, same works with the right side. Weird how duck hunters leave the ramp in waves at 4 am with stacked light bars and don't have these issues.

Good luck interpreting laws for game wardens.

GW has ticketed others and will ticket you on Lewisville if you cross main lake like that. These are some of the worst offenders.

I was on Grapevine one morning just as the sun started to rise (still dark) running down the middle of the lake and all the sudden i see this little buoy floating.... so i slow down a bit and was like "what in the F is that?" then i realize it's swimmer and had to cut hard to miss him/her, well when i cut to miss them i see there are like 10 of them and almost hit 2 more. So i stop and asked one of them "do you have a death wish?" he replied with "what? we have buoys on!" man you have a buoy the size of a kids nerf foot ball that is red (more black than red) you should have one that sticks out and has some contrast and a light if your out before the sun is up.. So heads up if your on Grapevine!

Do something different, you will be surprised what happens.
