Hey all. Broke the tip on one of my most used casting rods. It was a Waterloo Phantom in Medium power, moderate fast action. I like a softer rod as I throw many light Texas rigs and small swimbaits, and because I suck at casting. I need that extra rod load to get my bait out there.

This rod wasn't expensive but Academy doesn't have them anymore. I dont mind spending more but Im not willing to spend 400 bucks either. I would like to find a replacement for this rod. I'm not tied to any brand.

Let me know what you think.

Initial thoughts on good value rods that are softer than average:
The All Star Classic and Falcon Bucoo casting rods at Academy
The Fenwick HMG and HMX rods at Cabela's and Bass Pro

Thanks! I was looking at the Falcons at Academy and they feel kinda cheap to me. The All Star rods felt and looked higher quality. I haven't seen the Fenwick rods at my local BPS but I'll check them out online.

I replaced 10 of my rods with TFO and 2 with killer rods, happy with all.

for what you had, look at the tfo, my exhvy have pretty fast tips for the stiffness of the rest of the rod, good value imo.

shoot bronco71 a pm and ask what killer rods he has that fit your description, great value for the money imo.

TFO is top of my shortlist. Looking at the Tactical Elite series in medium moderate. I don't like cork but I do like those Winn grips. And I been meaning to get a TFO rod for a while.

I spoke with bronco71 and he does have something in what I'm looking for so I think I'll pick up one of those too. His prices are so good there is no reason not to.

Just an FYI....AMAZON has everything and I broke the tip off a few favorite poles...pricey ones...so I ordered package of rod guides and tips...some epoxy and I still use them....they aren't 7 ft or 9 ft any more but they are my favorite poles that I didn't want to shelf......

Just me- I use the ferrule cement that I used
to put nocks and inserts on my old arrows
Easy to melt and use with a lighter and if I
bugger up a tip I can hit it with a lighter again
and replace it easily. Not really sure how difficult
epoxy would be as far removing a guide or tip
for replacement
