Been seeing a breeding pair of Mississippi kites in the neighborhood for several years, but they're usually cruising 100 feet up. Never have seen them close enough to even really tell what they were for sure. Went out today to check why the AC wasn't running (yet another bad capacitor) and they were in the neighbor's tree. By the time I got back with the camera one had flown. I didn't have time to change lenses so there's a huge crop on this pic - this is less than 1/25 of the image - but here's what I got.

That's pretty good for that amount of crop. Good pic.
Had a nesting pair in the boss mans tree for the longest time. Very cool birds.

We have a bunch this year but none land in our trees like they did last year. Very cool birds.

We have several that hang around our neighborhood. They love to eat cicadas.

We also have Mississippi Kites that come back every summer. They nest in the taller cedar trees in the neighborhood. Sometimes on our property sometimes next door, but we always see them this time of year, until the yoots grow up big enough to fly, and then they head back north.
They are GREAT at eating insects, and the make a cool sound.
I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us. Hopper
