Learned my lesson on trailer tires. At 5 years you better think about replacing them regardless of the amount of tread.

I had an 3 month old Goodyear Endurance blow out at Rayburn a few weeks ago for no apparent reason. I had been running those China made Carlisle for many years and rarely had a blow out. Marathons suck bad - stay away from those.

I've bought six tires since all that happened. It's only money right?

My trailer is mostly garage kept. The boat sits in a sling at the boat dock. Tire guy said Marathon was made in China, was cheap for the trailer manufacturer and prone to disintegrating. On Friday, the remnants of the tire were missing steel bands which were up the road. That failure damaged the fender. I was driving with my fingers crossed. It didn't work.

I'll check the air pressures before we head out. Hopefully with the pressures correct they'll survive. For you guys worrying about your tires, they run a lot cooler properly inflated.

change em. I had an older tire blow a minute after I pulled off I45. Got lucky. It was 8 years old. Think I'll just change out tires at max every 5 years even though I rarely tow far.

I wouldn’t even make a tire swing outta those !!! Change them before you hit the road.

After reading this I need to think about my tires. Not many miles at all on my tires, lake house to boat ramp at Rayburn but they are 2014 tires.

What’s the best brand trailer tires, or go with care tires.

Thanks, Billy

I got Tow Max tires. These are the 65 psi tires specifically made for towing. I hope they last five years. They are pretty reasonable in terms of price. I hope that's not bad.

I've had good luck with Carlisle, Endurance and even the Trailer King that came on my current boat. I think the biggest concern is to keep them inflated properly.
Sadly, all I can get out of any trailer tire is about 10K miles.
Next set will be car or LT tires.

A few things that could have caused it...

1- You were not running them at max PSI
2- You let them sit in storage with the sun baking on them and sitting down in the dirt/grass
3- They're just old and dry rotted

My last set of tires were Marathons, and I finally had to the replace them because the tread was wearing down damn near to the belts. It's all about how you take care of them, and if you always run them at max PSI. Learned that lesson

Current set are some chinese made "Cargo Max" radials.. 8ply load range D, 65psi. They're from 2017 and still going good up and down the Texas interstates at 75mph. 3 of them have patches from nails/screws, etc.. Although, they are getting about time to replace because they are showing some dryrot. Making one last trip with them from Houston up to Rayburn this weekend then probably gonna retire them

I bought my boat in July 2014. Over the first 2 years I had 6 blowouts.

First was on my way to P.K. Went to Graham and purchased a spare. Only had Michelins.

Next trip to O.H. Ivie I blew a tire out in Ballinger, and then another just before Hermleigh. Limped home on 3 tires. Bought 2 Carlisle's from a local store.

Made a trip to Louisiana and had a blowout on the way home around Longview. Stopped at a Wal-Mart and purchased whatever was available.

Made a trip to Hubbard Creek and when I arrived at the launch, I noticed my back rim was there, but only had about an inch of rubber surrounding the rim. Drove to a tire store in Breckenridge and waited for them to open so that I would have a spare on the way back home, don't remember what brand I purchased.

Had another blowout on another trip to Hubbard Creek.

Was planning my annual summer trip to Louisiana where I take my boat each summer so I can take my mom catfishing. Started doing research and I believe someone on here recommended Good Year Endurance.

I bought 5 brand new tires and used them for the next 4 years without having the first blowout.

I bought 5 new tires 2 summers ago before my Louisiana trip. Probably had plenty of miles left on them, but peace of mind is pretty valuable to me.

Was just bragging on these boards about 2 months ago how I switched to Good Year endurance 6 years ago and haven't had a blow out sense. I believe that was on a Thursday, and then Friday I picked up my boat from the storage unit near Alan Henry and was headed to Lake Leon for our Club Tourney. I didn't make it 10 miles and had a blowout.

That being said, I will gladly take 1 blowout in 6 years. I'm sure I picked up a bolt or something along the road and I just didn't notice in time.

After experimenting with several different tires, I will only be purchasing Good Year Endurance from here on. I'm also pulling around a fairly heavy 22' Skeeter CC.
