This is in Gainesville. Nice small lake. You will need to buy a permit from the water service station. Think it's like $35 for the year. Find the points, laydowns, and docks near points, throw topwater in the AM, then worms the rest of the day.

Have fun.

Did not know about the permit, looks like I have to send pops over to get one! Thanks for the heads up!

I believe the permit can be purchased either from the store by the south ramp or in downtown Gainesville.

This might be a dumb question but is the permit only for boats with an engine? Would a kayak with electric motor still have to get a permit to get on the lake? Always wanted to check that place out but for $35 I’d pass since I don’t really live close.

I would get one for the following reasons:

1. According to the ordinance, Gainesville defines a boat as:
"Boat shall mean all boats, personal watercraft, barges, rafts or similar vessels intended for use as a floatation vehicle upon the surface of water."
2. The GW there is known for checking regularly
3. Kayak + electric motor = watercraft registration in Texas

There is a phone number on the second link above to ask for clarification.

My bad meant to say no trolling motor on the kayak. But the description they give tells me it probably wouldn’t matter and I’d be better off just paying $35 if I was gonna go. I’d have to give it a hard pass though. Plenty of closer places I can fish for free.

Was out there last month and caught a lot of bass in about 5-10 feet between docks. Not much size but
fun to catch. Wacky senko was the ticket. Also had luck on steep bluffs around any wood structure.

The store by the south boat ramp appeared to be closed, but don't know.

The place to get the permit (good for a year) is at the water station on south side of 35 in Gainesville.

I was out there a couple years ago and the police were at the ramp checking for permits. The good news
was that if you didn't have one, they would sell you one right there on sight to avoid a ticket.

Good luck

$35 seems cheap enough to me if the fishing is good

The lake used to be excellent fishing, had some toads in it, not sure what happened to all the big fish. Long ago we would start fishing early in the a m, when it got hot out came the skis and cold beer lol, that was really long time ago.

Like any lake, when social media gets ahold of it, the fishing generally changes for the worse.
