I’m taking my son to a baseball tournament in Hoover, Al in two weeks. I want to take him to fish Guntersville while we are there. Have not decided if I want to drag my boat all that way.
Anybody have any tips for this time of year or guides they might recommend?

Lake Guntersville is definitely on my bucket list. When we go, I will be bringing my boat because I plan on fishing several days. You have to take into consideration that a guide is going to charge about $400 a day to fish. If you are only going to be able to fish one day, then I would use a guide service. Several days at $400 a pop gets expensive. Obviously, if you the money to pay for a guide every day, then do whatever is best for you.

It's hot and humid here. "feels like" temps well over 100 all this week.
Water temp running mid to upper 80s.
Our problem has been a lack of rain and therefor only minimal generation (current).
Most days are running 10K to 20K cfs which is not enough to position fish properly on ledges.
Fish can be caught on ledge spots with magnum shaky head worms, jigs and a small special "swim bait" that will get me in trouble if I post its name.
I'm catching my ledge fish in 16' to 20' of water.
There is lots of floating eel grass. IT WILL MAKE YOU CRAZY.
If you can find mid depth range flats with scattered clumps of hydrilla, you can catch on wacky rigged sinkos.
There are pretty good fish in the boathouses now. Had several in my boathouse this evening. Skip a sinko under them.
Most will have matted up eel grass on one side or the other. Throw the frog.
Caught a 7-1 and a 6-12 recently on frog around boat houses.
Look for boat houses with hard bottom, sand or gravel around them. This is where our bluegill are hanging out and getting worked over by bass.
Fish behind the boat houses all the way to the seawall. Catching four and five pounders in two feet of water very early and late.
Our hydrilla is just starting to top out along the main channel. Flukes, punching jig, etc.
I'm in the Waterfront area. If I had to pick a portion of the lake to concentrate on, I'd say midsection (from Waterfront to Guntersville)

This lake is difficult for most visitors to just show up at and be successful.
It fishes very large.
If you have only a day or two to fish, I recommend you utilize a guide.

It's a Coosa River lake. Home to MAGNUM spotted bass.
They should be starting to school about now.
