Is it best to stop charging once the batteries are charged

Just need to have the right charger that floats at full charge. We have a lot of lithium batteries on field instruments. They all have a solar charger on them 100% of the time. The only difference is tour field units have daily current drain.

Why? Once their fully charged no need to float like a lead acid.

This. Once charged there is no reason at all to keep them charging. They should still be at 100% whenever you come back to the boat. Longest time I've tried this was about 6 weeks and they were all still at 99-100%

crankin battery is a flooded cell, drewcraft said this was the way to go with what I have. keeping the ionics at about 80-85% since it has been/will be a few months till I get back out on the water and just enough to keep the crankin battery topped off.

According to my electrical engineer son — “The best holding charge on a lithium battery between uses is 1/2 to 2/3 of capacity. Just charge it the day before you go fishing”

I have read this online as well so this is what I do. I have two 120 amp hour lithiums and I don’t even pull them down half way with a full day of use. I just top it off the day before I go out on the water.

Man, ditch that wet cell and get their 125a. You won't regret it.

I have Ionics in my boat running the TM and cranking/electronics. My storage facility does not offer electricity, so the batteries will go extended periods of time without a change.

Recently I've taken an interest in electric powersports and started researching and writing about products that will be coming to market that are lithium battery operated.

I wrote an article after a fair amount of research on lithium vs. lead acid batteries. https://chargedoutdoors.com/are-lithium-batteries-worth-the-expense-lets-find-out/

TMD I did take your advice and put all Ionics in my boat after the last lithium thread. Haven't got to test them yet but hope to saturday. Pulled another 30 lbs out of the back end at least.
