4th July weekend: Catching fish on deep (20 to 27 fow) and shallow (10 to 15 fow) humps. We are catching fish on #2 and #4 Mepps, so be prepared with both set-ups. The #2 is more likely needed for shallow humps and #4 for deep humps. Deep structures holding fish are Long Ridge, Iron Wall Hump, and Spillway Hump. Shallow structures include Dam Drop-off, Key Ranch Drop-off, and Merimac Hump. Grandson Sam caught a 30 lb, 33 inch blue cat on a #2 Mepps. Here is his pic:

Looks like great summer fishing. If that picture had been on pk this weekend, there would have been 20 boats and 30 skidoos in the backdrop. And 4' wakes.

7/9/2022: I acted as a guide for etu and cliffshot today as they competed in the Cedar Creek White Bass tournament. I had a chance to prefish Thursday and Friday and had found only a few structures holding reasonable sized white bass. It usually takes 15-inch fish or better to win the tournament, and in two day's of pre-fishing I had only caught one 15-inch fish. It was clear that 13.5 to 14-inch fish might win this year. One of the structures holding good fish was way up north in shallow (5 to 8 fow) water, and the other two places were mid-lake on 20 fow humps. So, we began our day going to the shallow water spot with plans to work back down the lake later to the two deep humps. But, we never stopped catching good (13 to 15-inch) fish at the shallow spot, so we ended up fishing there until time to come in for the weigh-in. From 6:30 to 10:50 AM, we ended up with 205 whites bass, 6 cats, 2 yellow bass, and a 30 lb buffalo. Cliffshot was a catching machine with either a #4 silver Mepps with a chartreuse body or a pink body. All 3 of us caught lots of fish, and Cliff came in 1st and etu 2nd in the tournament. Here's the big buffalo

Great report. I was looking forward to joining this year’s CC Veterans Foundation White Bass Tournament but conflicted with the family summer vacation in Bay St Louis, MS. Maybe next year. Still need to get over to CC this year to get out in 2022 to get a taste of CC Lake. Looks like a blast you’re having out there.
You ain’t gonna catch any sittin’ on the couch.

7/11 thru 7/13: I went on short scouting runs. Each day fewer fish are showing up on deeper structures, but I found fish on shallow (10 to 15 fow) structures such as Key Ranch Drop-off. With the new hatch of shad now big enough to be forage for the white bass, the smaller #2 Mepps is catching the white bass readily. See the technique in my youtube video (link to it in my signature block). In an hour yesterday, I caught a limit at Key Ranch. The fish are at the top of the drop-off and slowly moving along it. Stay on them using side-scan and sonar and you can keep catching fish.

7/15/2022: Went out with Cliffshot and his friend Mark. Fished from 7:20 AM til 1:30 PM and caught 194: 180 white bass, 5 legal hybrids to 24.5 inches, 3 short hybrids, and 6 cats. We found fish at Long Ridge West in 20 fow, Key Ranch in 13 fow, Spillway Hump in 15 fow, Enchanted Isle Ridge in 20 fow, and Iron Wall Hump in 20 fow. We did better on #2 Mepps and Cliff's version of a small bo-blade in shallow water, and on #4 in deeper water. Here is pics of two 24 inch fish Cliff caught:

07/21: Went out from 10 AM to 2:30 PM and caught 77: 66 whites, 5 cats, 4 short hybrids, 1 yellow bass, and a drum. I found catchable fish at Saint Annes Point East, Drew's Humps, and Sam's Hump in 10 to 15 fow, and found catchable fish at Long Ridge West in 20 fow. On the shallow structures, I caught fish best with a #2 Mepps and a regular #4 Mepps. In the deeper water at Long Ridge West, I did best with a #4 Mepps with a chartreuse body. I want to credit friend cliffshot for discovering that the #4 with chartreuse body works better than a standard #4 when visibility is lower, such as in stained water or when fishing deeper. Cliff is the one who won the recent Cedar Creek Lake White Bass tournament fishing the #4 with chartreuse body in stained 5 to 8 fow.

Thanks for the report Dennis. Just when I thought I was stocked up on enough Mepps, you go and throw a curveball with the chartreuse color. Vandam warehouse is out of stock, but Fish USA has them. Looks like I will be placing an order.
