What I use is a Daiwa 7ā€™3 Tutula rod
Reel Daiwa Tutula 6.3:1
Trilene Monofilament 14 -17lb line (I dislike Fluorocarbon)

When Iā€™m throwing those 20+ Crankbaits, I use my Daiwa 4.9:1 reel. Much easier to crank them deep.

Iā€™m still looking for the right rod, but a 7ā€™6ā€-8ā€™ rod with a Curado DC 6.2:1, 12 lb seguar invisx or sunline sniper.

12lb fluoro 7'6" or longer rod. Whatever reel you have that has long casting ability.

+1 and needs to hold a lot of line. Many of the newer reels don't hold enough line to suit me. The Tatula 200 or the Curado 200K hold plenty of line. A 6.2 is fast enough but not too fast for a 6XD.

Thanks for the replies... Looks like I've gotta invest in a longer rod. I've got 2 7 footers but it looks like i need another in the 7'6" range... Dan

Dan,

The longer rod is a personal preference. Yes, you can throw a bait farther with a longer rod but if you are vertically challenged you may not like a longer rod/longer handle. I am 6' 1" but my arms are very long like a person that is 6' 4" so I like a long handle and I'm talking about the portion below the reel.

Many 7.5' rods do not have a handle long enough to suit me. Case in point the older KVD Cranking rods were great rods for cranking big CB's but the handle below the reel was too short for my liking so I used mine once and threw it in the garage with the other 3 dozen rods I don't use.
