Lucky me! Week after next I am going to South Padre Island for 5 days.
Any advice on where to fish?
My saltwater experience is pretty much limited to jetty, pier, or surf. I usually use dead shrimp, cut crab, or jigs.
I know I won't be doing any party boat or charter fishing.
Thanks for any tips!

SF,
i usually take a boat down there but it sounds like you will be without. there is some very good surf fishing down there if the water doesnt have to much grass in it. also there are spots on the laguna side that you can wade fish and really get into the trout and redfish. any good map should show you some good spots to fish.
use your normal surf rigs for in the surf and use a good spin or bait casting outfit with 1/4 oz. weedless gold spoon or 1/8 jig head with some plastic shad bait or something.

Just got back from being down in South Padre...although I must admit I didn't fish this time. We did take the tunnel hulls out on the water though, and there are some really low tides in the bay. Areas over by Laguna Vista that usually have about 2 feet of water are getting down to 6" or less during low tide. Just an FYI.

Good luck down there!

Pirates Landing pier (must pay per rod not sure per person also but they to sell bait there as well), behind the Convention Center, Sea Ranch Pier (usually lot of tourist here), Isola Bella Park along the jetty, there are other areas however it is a little difficult to describe since there is no buildings or real landmarks but sand and brushes.

Hit PINS early. Trout in the wading gut on topwater are gettin' after it. No need to go far. Most were caught from 5m-10m. I dont target any other fish in the surf so I cant tell you about them. Good luck.
