Took my ole friend Ron out this Saturday at Pk. The lake was a zoo but we still did pretty good. We got a late start, so it was mostly night fishing. I didn't get to fish much, as I had to manage the boat in the wind. The times I did fish, when I caught one we almost ran into docks. I'm afraid I need to sell my Terrova and get a trolling motor that will hold my boat.

Green Light fishing. Big fogs of bait on these lights. Stripers and big LM come in after the perch.

I had to reel in this one, as Ron had a striper on. We nearly crashed into a dock with my Terrova spot lock doing its wander around and bash into things routine.

Some Nice sized LM Bass on the shallow lights. Personal best for Ron. No striper though unless the lights were deep.

We ended up with a nice cooler of fish ( 2 nice LM Bass and 5 stripers)

Huge numbers of ghost minnows this year. Did not see any shad in the lights. I think TPWD needs to restock Threadfins down lake at Pk like OK did at Texoma after the freeze. The schools of perch are getting harder to find with thousands of stripers hunting them. While I do like catching stripers, I think they are a mistake for freshwater lakes. In the green lights that were shallow there we only a few sand bass. A few years back right after the floods dumped all the stipers into the Brazos I would see hundreds of sand bass on those shallow lights. The ghost minnows are there but not many fish.

What a shame the stripers don't have a taste for carp...

Nice report Mike. I have never fished the lights at night. Hard for me to stay up, past 9. Looks like a couple nice green fish there.

One of the docks was in your cove. The first one out in deep water has a few fish. Those in the shallows are just holding perch right now.

MW, I think morning fishing is better. I can't do it as my wife is a late sleeper and is so easily waked I could never go in the morning without waking her up. It would not work out. That said, when I do get up and get a cup of coffee and sit on my balcony overlooking Neely slough, There's a ton of fish and bird activity recently.

I'm headed up Friday to see if I can get enough for a fish fry on Sunday. Wish I wouldn't have sold my center console because fishing out of a Cobalt just isn't easy.

Sandies are stacked in the lights further north. I caught a couple limits of them on Father's Day.

Kid, I think they have some threadfins up north by the river and the sandbass and stripers probably hang close by. I think the ones in the river survived the cold snap. This is more of a question for Randy Wood or some of the other guides. They probably are able to catch threads up by the river. Downlake, there are very few Threadfins. I have not seen one school of them this year.

I went up this morning and wore them out. 7 stripers, and well over 30 sandies. They were really busting the top, till about 8. I was just throwing a 1/4 oz jig head, and 3" grub. Needs the be chartreuse, or some kind of green. A big striper broke me off, put on a white and nothing. Tied a green on and the caught more. Kept 10 sandies for a fry today. Threw all the stripes back.
Gaines bend area, just look for the birds.

Not asking for coordinates but I have a place in Gaines Bend in second cove from Neeleys. I'm sure they were moving but about how deep of water were the sandies holding?

The stripers are busting the top everywhere. I would throw up in about 3 ft of water, and reel slow just keeping it up off the bottom. The sandies seemed best from 10 to 20 ft. Rig up several rods, I had stripers break me off several times and had to re tie and cost me valuable fishing time. I was just using 8lb test. LOOK FOR THE BIRDS! This picture is from straight across from gains bend. [Linked Image]

Thanks for the heads up MW. If I can't catch enough for a fry off my light I'll try that. Appreciate you sharing your report!

Russ, if you would put that light out a little deeper it will hold better fish. A nice brushpile in that cove to hold perch would help as well.

TPWD put fish attracters out on Gaines bend but they place them too shallow. The clear water at PK is hard on fish without shade. Best place to fish at PK is in a shady dock without a lift. There will always be tons of fish there.

I would like to have my light a little deeper too but I’ve only got a 50’ cord on it. My light gets fished hard and if I put it out any further all of the weekend warriors get hung on it and drag it around.

Fortunately I was able to get enough for a fry but it wasn’t easy. Those fish are so full from all of the bait that it’s hard to catch them on artificials. Had a great weekend with family though and my 5 year old daughter and her cousins caught a nice mess of big bluegills to add to the grease.

Russ, Bluegills make up the vast majority of fish in those lights. I think they are the best eating fish in the lake.

I don't fish the lights much now days. I can find stripers in good numbers under some deep shady docks.
