I live on Lake Tyler as my name here implies. For the past two years I've had the opportunity to fish for about five days each year on some SE Wisconsin lakes. I fished Lake Geneva and Pewaukee this year. Pewaukee is in the western suburbs of Milwaukee and is a city lake but with wonderful facilities and few fishermen. In a nutshell, Geneva is a millionaires playground near the Illinois border where multi-million dollar homes surround the lake. The main activity for those people is to cruise the lake in big boats. They are most likely Chicago and Milwaukee people. Geneva and Pewaukee are glacial lakes and are very deep (by Texas standards) with steep shelfs that shallow up to flats 15 feet deep and shallower. In most shallow areas there is abundant grass which is similar to hydrilla in a way. So we went out there and fished drop shots and a Carolina Rig and we stroked the bass on each lake. It is in fact very easy to catch a bunch of largemouth bass. They are not large but we caught fish up to about four pounds. I could not find any smallmouth and that was a missed objective. But I compare both lakes to the heyday of fish catching on Lake Fork or any lake when there was a lot of hydrilla. If you ever have a chance to fish any of these northern lakes in the summer, do it. On Friday I came across a bass guarding fry so that's where they are with post spawn up there in late June.
My buddy and I concentrated in ten feet of water or less and we didn't see many of the fishermen fishing that shallow. The locals seem to concentrate right at the break lines where 15 feet of water dives off to 80, 90, 100 plus feet in a hurry. I doubt anyone other than us were fishing a Carolina Rig. Southern boys can find the tools to catch fish.

I go back to Auburn & Angola Indiana every summer and sounds like the same thing. Deep glacier "bowl" lakes with flats and a ton of grass.... 50-75 bass days are fairly easy but getting 5 over 15 is tough. Its a great place to try new stuff and hone skills. I love being able to launch on say Lake James but also fish Jimerson, Snow Lake, Otter lake just by traveling the channels that connect them all.

It was easy to get over 15" bass. We caught some 18" plus bass so 2 3/4 to 3 pounds was achievable. But we weren't going to catch 6 pound bass. Even the short fish were chunky and in great shape. The summer weather was pretty nice also but it did get hot a couple of days.
