i Can only speak as a co-angler as Rome has been in the front of the boat for 95% of the time for our team tourneys. If I fish any other event I will be in the front of of the boat which happens a little bit. Trust is the biggest thing being a co-angler. If you know your partner well then expect to be front-ended and if he is so conscience of being considerate then tell him to keep his bait in the strike zone and not worry about it. I finally got Joe to do this for the most part. The net guy helps alot (you). Don't worry about this at all. The fish are gonna bite your bait also. PAY ATTENTION. if your flipping then watch where he is flipping. There is plenty of room when the boat passes those stumps/bushes you can hit that he didn't. If you're covering alot of water with fast moving baits pay attention to where he casts and cast to open water where he didn't.

If your partner is very methodical pitching/flipping stumps etc. Then see if his bait is hitting the cover or dropping right on the cover. You may be able to pitch past the cover and drag a bait back which will create a bite. Being a co is all about patience. If you can't do this then find yourself a co.

I can only do this ( a co) because I know how good Joe is. I know Joe could be an elite guy if he really wanted to be and I think I might could've done it myself. He asks me for input also which is part of the team aspect.

For you guys who fish opens and other tourneys with guys as a co then try your best to make a connection with them. If you cant find an angle when flipping/pitching then try to throw something different behind them. If your fishing open water/deeper areas or grass etc. then throw something different and keep changing it up. You may very well help your (pro) if you find the right color/bait which will help you of course.

Keep a good attitude at all times regardless of the situation. This is fishing so just enjoy yourself and do the best you can.

You guys have been a threat for a long time. It’s nice to see two dudes gel like you guys do. I’ve been in the boat with you and I know how good you are. You guys are a force and you’re a heckuva person off the lake, too. No doubt Joe is as well.

Lot of difference between being a team partner and a co angler. Team partners are fishing for the same goal as his partner the boater.
Team boaters should always try to situate the boat so both partners have a good shot at the cover they are fishing. If fishing tight cover or flipping team anglers fish together on the front of the boat.
A co angler is almost always at a disadvantage from the boater. The boater usually could care less if his co catches a fish and normally sees the co as completion for the same fish. I know there are exceptions to this but for 95% of the co anglers this is life.
As far as most boaters or “pros” a good co angler is a guy that stays out is the way and drags a shaker head behind the boat all day.
Then pays them 100.00 for gas and a boat ride.

A co or a team member? Huge difference

I've done both team and co-angler and yes there is a huge diffrence in the objective of the two.

Good insight....when I was a co-angler, it was always as a team. If I ever fished in a boat as a TRUE co-angler I was on a mission to hit the locations the boater was not. I almost always used a lighter weight / smaller bait. Many times it was a 4" roboworm, tube, 1.5 crankbait, etc. The only time I ever copied the pro when we we fished weed line, pads, etc...frog fishing.
