Well, I gave the crappie a break this week and went to Fayette to catch some gills, and at the same time put some jug lines out for some catfish.
Got into the water around 8:15 and set 6 jug lines out opposite side of lake from park prairie. Barely got the last jug line in the water when I noticed one bobbing up and down. When I retrieved it, to my surprise it was a soft-shell turtle hooked in the foot. Must have been 15†across and it took me awhile to get the hook out and release so he could steal the bait off my other lines. After that fiasco I went brim fishing. Few weeks back I had 5 locations that were producing fish. Unfortunately, only one location had fish on it and they were all smaller then 8â€. Fished along the dam (east side) where the bite was good but fish were small. Ended up catching couple of dozen including 7 Rios. Put half dozen in the cooler for dinner and released the rest.
The Jug lines turned out to be the best part of trip. I caught 7 catfish (blue and channel), 5 bass and the turtle. I was using cut bait from brim which was cut into 1†chunks. Didn’t get many pictures but twice I had a bass and catfish on the same jug line. One bass was 21†long and weighed 4.5 lbs.

Zane...Nice going on the catfish & that's a real nice bass as well. Looks like you need to do more focusing on those other species...Thats what I have done this year & it has really paid off with the bass...

thanks Steve and Banker
Steve I never dreamed bass would go after cut bait on jug lines. I guess if they're hungry they'll eat anything LOL. As far as other species, that's going to be the plan this year. I have livescope now therefore crappie will be the main source of table food this summer.
