Taking the boat to Rockport for the first time to try and get on some reds and speckled trout any advice on where to try and where to avoid would be greatly appreciated. Scouting it out on the map ahead of time I was thinking to try and get into estes cove and fish around Traylor Island but looks like it can get pretty shallow.

Thanks in advance

i think the redfish lake/reef area is a no motor zone. might be sure about that. plenty reds there, but you'll have to do it on troll motor. i think.

Don't know your boat, but Estes Flats, West of Traylor is shallow, but can be a good drift, if the tide isn't too low. If Aransas Bay is not too gnarly, you could launch at Cove Harbor, go out in the bay and tuck into Trout Bayou, Little Cut, Big Cut and on down to Corpus Christi Channel, which gets you to California Hole and the Klondikes. The cuts have plenty water. Just fish 'em and go out and south to the next one. The windblown bay shore of Traylor usually has bait, and therefore, trout and reds. Watch TexasFishingTips Youtube for weekly guide reports in the area. Live Croakers are the local favorite bait right now. Good luck, IslandJim

The water levels have been real low the past two weeks. Be careful in Estes. It is SHALLOW.

I hope you're not thinking of dunking your freshwater bass rig into the bay, it's death to it if you do.

Estes is shallow, as in if you're not running a proper tunnel rig, you're going to get into trouble pretty quickly. I'd stick close to the canals and intercoastal for a while until you figure out how to read water depth. Lot easier to run when you've got some wind, remember wave height is 1/2 water depth. 6" wave is a foot deep.

Your boat will run shallow enough. But won’t get up shallow enough to keep from uprooting sea grass in the majority of Estes with the current water levels.

There are plenty of fish on the around the outside of Estes for you to catch. Find the bait and you’ll find the fish.

I’ll be doing the same thing next week in a G3 CC. We’re using a guide on Monday to get some sort of an idea of where and where not to go. Good luck.
