When I was a kid, I had to go to confession, and if I broke one of these, it was a bad deal. I must have been kinda bad because I did say quite a few Hail Mary's and Our Fathers. Does anybody here know them, know what they mean, and why they should be followed? Don't look it up.

Lol. Can anyone here recite them without looking them up? I had to look them up. That wasn't the case 50 years ago.

When I was a kid I would periodically get dragged off to confession. I would start the conversation with the priest by lying about how long it had been since my last confession. Not a good Catholic.

My mother is Lutheran. My dad was Catholic. So, we were raised Catholic. My dad starting going more to the Lutheran church in his later days. But I was confirmed in the Catholic church when I was 16. I could also recite the Apostle's Creed. Had to do it for the nuns. I'm guessing the abliity to do either has faded. I know it has with me. I cannot recite the Ten Commandments nor the Apostle's Creed.

One of the things missing in schools today, if you ask me. Even if it's without religious denomination, it's a great part of ethics and morals to learn in life. We should be teaching these (not religious indoctrination) instead of CRT and gender disorder at a very early age.
Could I repeat them with out looking them up, no. It's been a few decades since CCD and I've slept since then. But I try to live the golden rules every day.
Laws won't fix a sin problem. What this world needs is a revival, change of the heart. ~The Skipper

The apostles creed and the Nicene creed are burned in my brain.

“I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain. “Remember to keep holy the LORD’s Day. “Honor your father and mother. “You shall not kill. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.”

1 Timothy 1:9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers
The difference between being involved with a religion and being "born-again". Your religion keeps you under bondage, a bondage that you can not escape on your own. Jesus came to set the captives free. He came to make you a free man, cleansed as white as snow, where you sins are no longer remembered, they are removed, you are free. Paul writes that all things are lawful for me but not all things are profitable. When you have been "born-again' you receive a new Spirit, the Holy Spirit and shed the old Spirit of man. Therefore you will never find freedom in the 10 commandments, there is no longer a high priest to make a sacrifice for you, that was done on the cross once and for all. So you Catholics (as I was) and others who think you can pray to have your sins temporarily removed are under deception of a false religion and you should understand when a true Christian(born again) does not stand with you in your beliefs. There is a way that seems right to man but leads only to death and destruction. Jesus said you must be born-again to see the Kingdom of God. If you are living under the 10 commandments which I can assure you, you are not adhering to, that is a refusal to accept why He died and rose again. He said when you accept Me as Lord and Savior , I will give you a new Spirit, that is the Spirit of Truth and you will live as a new man, no longer under the old law but under a new covenant with Christ. This new Spirit speaks to you and you seek to please your heavenly Father with what is now written on your heart and it goes way beyond any commandments that were written. Read Galations and see the revelation you are given about the old law and the new covenant. It is a great book to read and get understanding.

Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[f] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[g] There is no commandment greater than these.”
