A friend who once dabbled in the Section 8 housing program told me it is never the people who live in the house, it is the people who visit the people who live in the house who are the problem. The people who live there have something to lose, the people who visit don’t really care.

And let me be clear, I'm all for a helping hand when people need it. That said the hand should be to help them up and then they run on their own 2 feet. In most cases it should be temporary and a minimal amount so as not to incentivize a lifestyle..... people who are truly disabled for whatever reason and unable to work should be treated a bit different as letting people die in the streets is probably not a good idea. I fully understand why an HOA doesnt want them. Just like why apartments should be largely unwelcomed in certain areas. There is a predictable outcome from these type situations and they absolutely make property values suffer in areas in the long term. What ever happened to a good old fashion project?????

So they can rent a house that costs 2400, landlord gets 900 from the section 8 and the rest from the tenant. My attitude is if you can afford to pay the difference you should be living in a smaller house and not getting the assistance. I wont do it for numerous reasons with my houses. In fact if the day comes I needed to rent to section 8 people that would be the day I sell my rental properties. Life is too short to deal with certain types.......

Here's the payment standards for Denton Housing. Basically, this is the maximum rent that can be charged by the landlord. Section 8 pays whatever voucher amount the recipient is entitled to, and the tenant pays the rest. The number of bedrooms is based on the number of people in the household. So a 'single' mother with multiple children can get a pretty large voucher (unmarried baby daddy will often be hanging around, but is not declared on the voucher or the lease).

Lol, those are some big numbers

Our tax dollars at work…no pun intended hammer

Judge Judy has a lot of fun with people on section 8 and ones not working. She looks over at her bailiff as says you and I are paying these people.

I got a buddy running a few. he says if they start F'ing up all he has to do is reach out to the city and let them know...and they shape right up. like you mentioned, they have something to lose and if they dont uphold their end of the deal they lose benefits. The rentals he has arent high end, so maybe he just found that right zone....but he's a big fan of Section 8.

Why are there so many bums in Denton?
When we have select softball games there I can’t even go into a whataburger or any convenient store without getting pestered by bums
It’s very annoying

I know a few that have lots, they say 90 percent of the game is getting the houses at right price. It's just not something I am interested in.

I feel the same way when I'm in first class on a plane and the poors in the back make eye contact with me as I drink wine and eat warm cookies.

He's a fan because he doesn't have to chase down rent.
