my dad did exactly the same . He would make me examine the two parts to the detail . When he would have me wrench on cars --he always said " leftty loosey , righty tighty "
My dad was married three times --- he always married women who were incredibly self fish ---- I learned from them how not to be self fish ---that's the best lesson I learned from him

My dad died when I was really young. So the life lessons kinda stuff really never got preached. The one thing he said to me that stuck? Keep your eyes on that fishing pole son…..well…..that was a big one (as my abu 5000 combo left the bank so fast it made a bubble trail) I was ADHD and NEVER medicated. HAHA

After I had kids I figured I probably should not be a smoker.

that's brutal , I will never understand how a parent can do something like that to a young child .

I learned real quick to hold the light still when my dad was working on something.

You can choose to be right, or you can choose to be happy.

Great piece of advice, but I rarely apply it.

I am not being serious.

My father passed away when I was 3 years old, my Grandfather and an Uncle both made sure I stayed on the right path. Neither was a man of many words but they both taught me that life will not always be easy or fair. You work for what you get and you take careof your own.

2 things for me….”.don’t try to teach a pig to sing, it annoys the pig and wastes your time”. And the most important one, “don’t mistake the tail light for the love light”.

Some of y'all have some profound wisdom that has been passed on to you.

My dad pretty much just continually beat into my head to not eat the yellow snow. I'm not always successful in implementing that advice, but I'll never stop trying.

Just because someone is nice to you doesn’t make them your friend.

I tell my son:

Do what you HAVE to do now so that you can do what you WANT to do later.
and
Use your brain so you don't have to use your back.

And I can't think of much that Dad has said that influenced me. But his actions were way greater than words. He's a hard working man, like his father. And I like to think I'm a hard working man myself.
We don't take handouts even if we need them. I'll probably work until the day I die and then my wife will probably just call me in sick. grin
