Bill Gates says they are based on the greater fool theory. While I'm no fan of his I will say that that is as simple and explanation as I has heard, other than the Charlie calling them turds.

Advice from Bill eh....... How that vaccine advice workout. No thanks.

What about Mark Cuban or Elon Muck and their support of the industry? Of the 2 groups, you can have Billy.

They all hate gold as well. Buffet said he never understood the value of digging something out of one hole and putting it in another hole, just this time with guards. Crypto is digital gold. A store of value. Blockchain is a new technology that will eventually play a large role in commerce. The problem is nobody knows which currency is going to emerge triumphant. So it's a casino right now for sure.

I think eventually there will be a stable cyrpto coin tied to the US dollar and another that is tied to actual gold that will rise to the top with all the advantages of anonymous verifiable transactions and stability from being pegged to traditional stores of wealth. The nice thing about a stable coin tied to gold of course is that it would be independent of federal reserve monetary voodoo.

They are almost 90 you know right, heck I think Charlie is already decomposing? But instead of the back and forth, wouldn't it be better to actually discuss his comment on NFTs & why it is completely misguided. NFTs will have a huge role in society - one example is the concert/sports ticket industry. Sure there are some dumb things (IMO) like the Bored Ape art but painting such a broad brush on an entire industry is disingenuous. There are 1000's of everyday uses and this short article of a good one....Pay attention to #10 - Voting. This is the movement I'd like to see.

Everyday NFT uses - It's not just internet artwork

I have always agreed with buffet on gold, and gates is basically echoing the same sentiments about crypto.

Christ Wawi, seriously? Being sued for 258 BILLION dollars because he tweeted about it? Unreal that you of all people cannot see this as frivolous...Unless your posting that was sarcasm, look deeper.

Sometimes they have to sell their ideas to create a greater fool, that's what that article is an attempt to do

I just read this. I don't understand why a digital, hack-able computer code would be better suited to any of these uses than what we currently do...

For change to take place, there has to be an advantage to the alternative. I don't know how you'd explain this as being superior.

But I don't understand the value of NFTs at all. I think we have too many kids in their 20s playing big games with dad's money and just hoping to strike it rich with an idea and willing to ask forgiveness if it doesn't work. For the record, I'm in my 30s, so I'm not some 70-year-old dinosaur not wanting to change. I'm fine with change. I owned dogecoin last year. I just don't get what values NFTs provide at all, in any walk of life.

What? Most of these are in practice today and only gaining more and more traction...except the voting part unfortunately.

Honest question, do you think Identity theft is a problem? Rhetorical I know but think about application of NFTs to reduce ID theft. Its coming thank goodness and not "Greater Fool" - it is advancing technology that can improve people lives and protect.

""""As NFTs contain code with a unique set of information, they can be used to tokenize documentation such as degrees, academic certificates, licenses and other qualifications as well as medical records, birth and death certificates. The identity or certification can be issued directly over the blockchain as an NFT, which can be traced back to the owner. So, employing NFTs to digitally store and protect medical history, personal profiles, education and address details gives users better control of their data and can help prevent identity theft.

A similar concept could be applied to driver's licenses or passports in the future. While NFTs could help eliminate driver's license, visa and passport forgeries, details about the technology -- possibly using a mobile app -- have yet to be worked out.

Look, I just relayed what some financially savvy folks say about the stuff. If buying a digital picture of a monkey seems like a solid investment dont let me hold you back. I have never seen people so convinced as crypto junkies. I have made bad investments before. It happens, I have never invested in digital beanie babies so I can see in hindsight how the victims of pump and dump are a bit sensitive
