Work has been crazy along with some family stuff lately, and my fishing has been little to none.
My son and a friend of his want to go fishing in the morning. Going to be hot but wind not bad, per the news...
I have not had a chance to go out and look at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all.

Ken

Wish I could help you Ken but I have been out of the game for a bit too. Last trip was the first trip on Dock Holiday and we suffered from not having the electronics dialed in. Gonna fix that today. Hoping to get a feel for what's going on and maybe get out there tonight or tomorrow night. With the heat on like it is, don't want to take Wyatt out and have him get sick from it...

Hope you find 'em!

Got a late start this morning, as I think two 15 olds stayed up late. Real late. Lol.

They swam and played hard all day, and were ready to shut down earlier tonight.

Was hot but we caught a few late morning. Marked a lot of fish in 12 to 15 on creek beds. Everything was small we caught. But they had fun. All that counts.

Going to try for a little while tomorrow morning.

Good luck with the new boat Tim. Looking forward to seeing it!

Ken, when I get it dialed in and we are past the spawn, you are gonna get an invite to come up to Lavon.

Ken, I don't know CC at all. I think you have the right idea though on where you're looking. I haven't been able to get out at all lately myself, but when I do I think I'm gonna start looking for them to show up in a little deeper water. Those bigger females should be done or just about done with the spawn and they're gonna be hungry. I'm gonna start looking for the summer sand bass pattern. I'll probably be looking for them in the 20-25 foot range in the channels. If you find the sand bass you should find some blues. They may be a little tough to keep up with early in the summer. Later on they should get a little more set in their patterns. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in here and give some more tips. I'm always curious what happens during this transition time.

Spot on Geno. And with this heat, don't rule out a thermocline by next weekend. I saw water that was 82 degrees last week. The wind might keep that from being an issue but the temps sure could induce one...

I haven't been out since May 14th, but on that day, Texoma had a thermocline at 50 ft. With the recent warmer temperature, the thermocline should be at about 30 ft. You will mark fish below the thermocline, but I have never had much luck getting them to bite. I believe they are just not active in the areas of lower oxygen content. Think of how you feel when in the mountains at high altitude. This time of year, I generally fish in depths which are above the thermocline. Several factors effect a thermocline. Different areas of the same lake at the same depth may or may not have a thermocline depending on those factors. The areas of thermocline may also move from day to day.

Well said guys. Once I nail down the thermocline, I try to fish just above it anywhere the bottom structure meets it. When the thermocline is at 30 feet I like to try to drift along a ledge that's around 25 feet. I like to fish flats adjacent to that as long as I'm marking fish.

Thanks guys.

We fished a little and caught a few, nothing big, and let the boys swim and play more than fished... it was HOT. They had a good weekend.

Geno, I definitely like the sandbass pattern in summer, early fall. Got a few places I like to target, but on weekends get a lot of boat - jetski play traffic. So I do it early, and then switch usually.

Bigger problem I am fixing to have if we dont get some rain soon, is water level. My dock is about 4.5' at full pool... have about 250 yards out to deeper main creek. Lake is 2.1 low today. Not going to be able to get the big boat out of the dock if we lose much more... might be doing what fishing I can from my duck boat... Texas weather!

Tim - definitely going to make a trip with you this summer. Looking forward to it!

My biggest problem with the thermocline, on the lakes I fish, the fish end up being just above it, but in deep water. In the areas where it is just shallow enough to not have a thermocline, the fish aren't there. That's the craziest thing I see during the summer.

I prefer fishing Ray Roberts in the summer, even though it's not that close to me. Main reason is, for some reason, it still has pockets of deep water (50 foot or deeper) without a thermocline. No clue as to why. We sat out there one night in August of 2020 and caught dozens, and dozens of eater size blues out of 52 foot of water, all right off the bottom.
