Today we had our Neely Henry tournament. First off I really do not like fishing this lake. It’s just been a lake that I can’t figure out……and it seems like most of our bass club can’t either.
I came in with zip, nothing, nil, and so did another 9 boats out of 19.
I threw everything I could think of and I got one bite and it was on a chatterbait right at the boat as I was pulling it out or the water and it came off. It sure wasn’t the lack of trying, I was wore out and frustrated to the max.
This year I started out great then the last three months I have done terrible. Plus the summer time is upon us and 90+ degrees with water temps already in the low 80’s is making it even tougher.
I find myself doubting if I will even catch a 5 bass limit anymore….today I would have welcomed a 1 bass bag.

Having grown up on the Coosa, Weiss & Neely were my stomping grounds. l could go today and catch a 5 fish limit without even thinking about it. Only issue would be that limit would weigh 5 lbs. grin

I love fishing the Coosa River. My home lake is Logan Martin which I can catch spots there all day long. I like Lay Lake. Mitchell and Jordon can test you at times.
I have not really fished all that much above Rainbow City on Neely Henry, that might be where I go and do some running around at. I usually fish from the lower dam up to Rainbow City.
I am going to take a week vacation and fish Pickwick, Smith and maybe head down to West Point. In between that jump I might try out the northern part of Neely. You got any good spots you might want to lend me here….I really need it on Neely Henry.

Some days I feel I couldn't catch water if I fell out of the boat.

I got skunked more then I care to remember when I had a bass boat, it frankly got very frustrating. I was just a terrible fisherman, a pure novice, always guessing and guessing wrong.

Ever since I swithed from a 14 foot jon boat to a full on bass boat I've sucked as well. For me it's a relearning thing. My biggest problem is learning to have the stealth I had with the jon boat with this bass boat. I get on a spot and I'm like a bull in a China closet. It seems like every time I go out I'm getting better at boat control though. It would probably be a major improvement to, if I got a trolling motor with spot lock capabilities.

Think of it this way, you know what not to do. Now that you've learned that go try something else. .aybe a new area on the lake, new depth zones, more finesse presentations, etc

Love fishing Lake Jordan on the Coosa. Kicks my butt every time but I can say I am getting better there. First time I went caught maybe 6 bass in a week, came home and caught that many in 15 minutes on home lake. It just fishes so much different than West Texas lakes.

Coosa River fishing can strain the most patient angler around. The entire chain of lakes is VERY dependent on water current from the dams. Calm water on the Coosa makes for a long day.
