I've tied hundreds of froggy flys but have never been very successful at tying a weedless version that wasn't more fish-less as well. I went back to the bench recently tying up a froggy fly using a traditional method of adding a 25# mono weed guard to the fly. And to my great surprise it worked!

Not a fan of weedless, but as Neil Young said, there comes a time ...

Two thoughts; 1) To prevent line twist from helicopter, place a barrel swivel between the bite tippet and the end of the leader. 2) Second way to get weedless not fishless. Use a worm hook. Tie in a 60# nylon straight or a length of SS wire to the short shank just before the hook eye. The long part extends back towards the hook point. Tie a fly on the straight before tying it to the hook. The back of the fly should be stiff bucktail to cover the hook point. The light fly crawls over obstructions without depressing the mono/wire. But a bite crushes the fly below the point; voila a hookset.
