Once every year or so I venture to a lake I've never fished before - to see if I can find and catch white bass of course. This year I made a trip to Lake Sam Rayburn. I fished Monday from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM and again today from 7 AM to 12:05 PM and caught a total of 112 fish: 76 whites, 19 drum, 9 yellow bass, and 8 black bass. I couldn't find any on side-scan. So I kept searching different depths using sonar and X4 sonar and eventually found them in 34 to 38 fow. I stomped the boat floor and used a Bobo thumper set on erratic thumps to draw fish up under the boat. Both trips out I stopped when I reached my target number of whites, so I could have caught more. I caught many whites in the 16 to 17 inch range. The one in the pic below was 17 inches. I also show the fish under the boat on sonar X4 in 38 fow. I did the best by far with a #4 silver Mepps. When I tried heavier baits to get down to the bottom faster in the deep water, the bite rate plummeted but I did catch some on a Mepps Longcast/MAL #4, some on a 2/5 oz Little Cleo, and some on a Bo-blade slab.

Vertical approach Dennis or Mepps to the bottom and slow start and spin ??

Let the Mepps 4 free fall to the bottom. Jiggle it a couple of times sharply. Point rod down and reel up slow to medium 3 to 4 turns. Release back to bottom and repeat. Thumping the boat floor with my #13 feet brings more under the boat.

I will start wearing #13 shoes the next time I go fish, DC. Big shoes = big fish
