I can’t find the post or remember who posted It but there was someone on here who recently recommended a Dobyns 804c as his c-rig rod. I ordered one and It came in today and this thing is a broomstick. Anyone use It? Seems super stiff and wondering how sensitive it’ll be.

Never tried that model, I use a 784 HP. Works great for a-rigs too.

Now I have 3 of them. Mine are the older models before the HP came out. I also like the Dobyns Sierra 734 for the C-rig if you want a shorter rod to use.

I have used many a rods and the Dobyns 804C is the perfect C-Rig rod for throwing a 1oz weight. Great length that cast a mile. Sensitive tip section to feel difference between mud, sand, gravel etc. plenty of backbone for Long sweeping hooksets on big fish. This is the best C-Rig rod at any price point IMO. If you are using 1/2oz then go with the 784. I catch good ones like this all the time on this setup. Not overpowered at all. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/06/full-41404-141856-img_2460.jpg)

Good deal! 1oz is exactly what I plan to throw based off the below post. I screenshotted It a few weeks ago but can’t find It now. I plan to rig It just like in the post. Still deciding on reel. I’m guessing I’ll need a lot if line? ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/06/full-52243-141859-f8fed544_0288_4b3a_93e7_4a457fae6fa0.png)

Never used it for A -rigs but the 784 DX is my favorite jig rod and works well with a big spoon.

Any good 200 size reel along with some quality 20lb floro will work just fine.

Yeah no Antares for me lol
It’ll either be one of my Tatulas or the new Revo Ike that’s on the way if I like It.

You are correct that the 804 is kind-of stiff. It needs a 3/4 or 1 oz weight to really work well. With the 8' length and that weight you can sling a CR really far and cover some water. Also when you hook a fish you can take-up alot of line on a sweep hookset. For 1/2 oz the 735 or 784 works well.

Something doesn’t make sense here. A 4 power Dobyns rod is a 4 power rod. How would topping from A 804 to a 784 make a difference in flex/stiffness?
