My bucket list includes a peacock bass fishing trip in the Amazon. I'm looking for advice on which company to use and your experience. I'm planning on a 2024 trip and want to catch monsters!
Thanks for your feedback.

Check with Frontier's Travel or Dan Blanton's Forum, cannot go wrong with either place.

Check with Frontier's Travel or Dan Blanton's Forum, cannot go wrong with either place. Seems like these focus on fly fishing. I don't want to fly fish for them. I want to use rod/reel combo.

Do they use rod/reel or is it fly fishing? I'm not interested in fly fishing. Looks like I have to call them since there's not much info about this on their website.

I have used Frontier's, you can use what you want when you fish, same as Dan's place, Best to use a place from Frontier's.

I went with them several years back. Solid operation with the Otter as the base boat. They throw primarily big Woodchopper top waters on bait caster with 80# braid. I would throw 65#. You fish everyday from 6am to 11am come back for lunch and decide when to go back out. We usually went back out at 2pm until 6pm. It’s hot. Wear clothes that block the sun and drink plenty of water. They catch a bunch on every trip with some in the 20#+ range. Flew to Manuas Brazil. Then float plane about 1hour to meet the Otter. Float plane was amazingly nice, better than what I had rode in Alaska. Otter moves daily and boats meet it. Food is pretty good. Staff takes care of you very well. Guides speak some English but not a lot. They rotate guides daily among the customers. Zero mosquito or bug issues. I have also been to Panama and fished for Peacocks. They don’t grow big there. The Amazon is where to go.

First forget Ron Speed and go with Capt Peacock, they will actually tell you the truth about the water level. When the waters is high, during the rainy season do not go unless you like casting all day for a few bites. During the dry weather season the fish are in the main river basin and can be found, during high water the fish move into the flooded forest.
Capt peacocks main boat is a floating 5 star hotel, they had new bass trackers when I went in late 2019 just before Covid. The guides are top notch, they are natives of the Amazon and know the river. Although it fun to fish a woodchopper it gets old pretty fast, and there are other lures the guides will suggest based on the area.

Ron Speed doesn’t go during the rainy season. It’s true that you don’t want the water high but they can’t control that. They time the scheduling of the trips when the water should be down. It was a little higher than ideal when I went and we still caught plenty. A couple of times out were slow with just a few. Only one person didn’t catch one over 15#.
If you want to throw something like a hair jig you could catch more but they generally were 5#. You don’t go to Brazil to catch 5#ers.
