What’s the difference in the RC boat having sonar and a fishing boat having it? Just because you mark fish or structure doesn’t mean they’ll bite. Strange law if it’s true.

The difference- there's not a licensed fisherman on the RC boat....To be clear I didn't say this is a law just posing the question, what if.

But there’s a licensed fisherman operating it from shore…

Buddy your trying to argue something that isn't. My answer to your question was with tongue firmly olante in cheek. To me knowing just a little about how game wardens view certain aspects of the law it could be considered illegal means and methods. Just my thoughts...

This thread got me curious. The answer comes down to the definitions of "taking" or "attempting to take" fish. Any device which is used to assist in locating fish could be considered as an attempt to take fish. While I would happily use a remote device to get my baits way out from the beach, having a sonar unit on it would not be worth a hair-splitting argument with a game warden. Or a judge.

No dog in the fight, but some day the drone could end up in the drink and not be retrievable. The boat is already there and could be...
