Looking at making the 2 hour trip to Athens one day next week. Wondering if the bream are on beds and if the larger fish are biting yet?
I usually go in July and august since it’s a fairly long trip. Wondering if it would be worth a trip this early in the summer.
Taking my wife and she’s only into catching. Not much of a fisherman.

Thanks everyone.

We have a couple of anglers who fish Athens and post in the Bluegill Forum . Hope one of them will reply. They do catch some nice Bluegill. thumb

Look up the lakes state biologist and give them a call. They will probably give you a good ball park date that they should be spawning.

I fish Athens often. It is a little early for the really good slab fishing. I'd say 2 maybe 3 weeks would be prime. Just remember to leave some for the Chief

I’ll definitely post how we do. Hoping for a few of the good ones. Been a while since I’ve caught a knot headed break. Would love to see my wife’s reaction when she gets ahold of one!
