Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm learning about Trot lines and trying to figure out where can you purchase tags? Is it possible to buy them and print online? Or do you need to go somewhere every week to buy a tag to set out a line on the weekend?

Trotlines in Fresh WaterGear TagA tag constructed of material as durable as the device to which it is attached. The gear tag must be legible, contain the name and address, or customer number, of the person using the device, and the date the device was set out. Date is not required for saltwater trotlines or crabtraps fished under a commercial license. For juglines and freshwater trotlines, properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags.

I used strips cut from a Clorox bottle and a Sharpie.

half gallon milk jug with sharpie to print info is legal.
if not floating the line just put one at the tie off point so it floats or use nylon twine and tie to trotline.
you can double up by letting the jug dry out and put a piece of another inside with info printed on it.

The tags they refer to are just identification of who owns the trotline. They aren't like deer tags or redfish tags that have to be purchased in order to harvest.
You can make them out of anything that will hold up out in the lake. Some good suggestions above.
