Park is well kept up. Dog friendly with leash rules. Frio river flows through the park. Park is extremally busy from Memorial day till Labor Day. Best time to be at Garner is from late September through March. thumb

Side Note: The Lost Maples Café in Utopia is a very good place to eat. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner! food

This trip we are tent camping. I have a pop up camper, but I was unable to get an rv site this time. We have stayed in the screened shelters before also.
I can't wait 14 days just chillin on the frio.
When we go around Thanksgiving we do a ton of hiking, in the summer we swim, eat ice cream, and play mini golf.
Am going to try to catch a rio on my flyrod.

There is a great burker place in Leakey called the Bent Rim Grill and a cool place in Concan called Hippie Chicks, which has awesome margaritas and pizza.

We went there a few years ago and enjoyed it. We went in early October. Weather was nice and not too crowded. Water was great.

We had no cell service which was a surprise. Drove to Uvalde so we could let family know we could not be contacted. Also, we had no TV reception. Not necessarily a bad thing but not expected.

kdub#1 and others: Is there enough water in the river usually after Labor Day to kayak and kayak fish? How about up-stream from the park? I was there about 10 years ago, just looking around. Might be a nice escape from the salt water. IslandJim

I'm an Eighth Day Adventist. On the Eighth Day, God went fishing!

The river is very LOW right now , I definitely would not kayak. When the water is up higher I would still say that Garner is not a great place to kayak fish, but if I was to do it I would put in at the dam by old baldy and then fish below the dam where it as a bit deeper. I caught some rio grande chichlids and brim on the fly on my trip in June. There are some bass in the deeper holes also.
