I have trained sunfish in my pond to come to me when they see me standing on the dock. They come from different directions and school below me as I throw them little pieces of white bread, slashing at the surface, bumping heads to gobble that little bit of starch. But yesterday a 10" bass swam over to see what the commotion was and for whatever reason didn't like what it saw. It proceeded to chase gills left and right but the sunnies came right back anyway! It didn't feed on the fish, it just wanted them to stop. Bass don't eat bread so that wasn't the reason.

Another thing I noticed: a pumpkinseed sunfish to the right of me on its spawning bed still ate the bread I threw to it but also chased sunnies that got close too to where the bread dropped before returning to the bed.

Here's a shot of my + two dozen buddies waiting patiently no matter the time of day:

Those are cool pics.
My munchkin used to do the same thing with left over French fries.
The cats and carp put on a great show but unfortunately people started to pull the big fish out.
Not sure if they ever restocked it. Called North Lake now off Olympus and belt line off 635

Sunfish and catfish are very aggressive eaters. A friend of mine who is a member of a golf course invited me to see the Copper Nose Bluegill that were stocked in one of the pawns on the golf course. One of the ponds came up to a outside patio. When we approached the rail on the patio by the pond the Bluegill came up to us. Some of the Bluegill were easily in the 9 to 10 inch range. There were about 30 to 50 fish swimming slowly around that area by the patio. My friend then waved his hand slowly back and forth and the fish then started to top the water. My friend told me that the maintenance staff feed the fish a couple times a week with high protein fish pellets and that the fish thought it was feeding time. Catfish are the same. I know several ranch owners who feed their catfish in ponds on their ranch. The catfish will surface to the top when they feel the vibration of the truck or mule coming up to the pond. They know it's feeding time. thumb

Neat pictures. Like mentioned above, I have seen catfish coming to a dock as a feeder was going off.

I have a friend that lives on Lake Mcqueeney. He has some Bluegill that he has named. He get's them up by splashing the water lightly with his hand. I have seen this done several times and there is always three to seven that come up. He feeds them bread. Interesting. This is on his dock in his dock slip.
