I buy nothing but 10” worms and cut them down to whatever length I want. In years past one of my most productive worms was a Berkeley 10” Red Shad Power Worm cut down to 4”. Had great action.

Culprit 7.5" tequila sunrise. I haven't thrown a worm in a long time but the culprit was my go to. I don't know why I stopped throwing them...may just tie one on this weekend.

Grande Bass 5" Snake-O T-Rigged with 1/8 oz. 3 or 4/0 Owner cutting point offset hook, McCoy 15# Mean Green. Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Chartreuse, Watermelon Red, Ballistic Bluegill, Chartreuse Pepper & of course Black Blue. Only soft plastic worm we use. Productive on every lake we fish in all conditions. On occasions I will throw a Falcon Craw, usually late summer early fall.
Reality. What a concept!

When you say "worm" that can be a pretty expansive category. I'm going to leave out stickbaits/senkos/wacky rigs from my answer and focus on what I think of first when I think of "worm" fishing. For me that means a Texas rigged 10" worm with a tail that provides a swimming action fished slowly around brush piles or targeted structure. In terms of brands/colors I use either a 10" Berkley Power Worm in some version of green (usually green pumpkin or watermelon seed/candy/or red) and in dirty water green with a chartreuse tail or a Zoom Ol' Monster 10.5" in California 420 or again some version of green. Usually run them on a 5/0 EWG hook with either a 1/4oz or 3/8oz bullet weight. I did buy some of the 6th Sense Ridge Worms in one of the sales this winter. Haven't fished them yet as I generally start fishing worms post spawn through early fall but looking forward to seeing how they work as they would appear to have great action without having to move the bait hard. I'm partial to 6th Sense Nirvana and Cali Magic Red colors so have those. 6th Sense Ridge WormZoom Ol MonsterBerkley Power Worm

Most productive? By many orders of magnitude, 2.75". PB&J. Never caught any giants on it though, my biggest on that small a lure is only 8.5lbs.

Color depends largely on the lake you fish ad water clarity. My local lake seems to be Green pumpkin flavors. But East Texas lakes may be different. My old home lake in Missouri was Red Shad colors. Another lake was Junebug.

Thanks All! Hopefully some future day I can start posting reports of how great I catcherman I've become!
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

If anything , this thread proves you can fish with about any type worm you want, bass loves them. Fish with what you feel the most confident in.
