I'm looking into adding the Bama rig to my arsenal and am starting from scratch. I'm not used to throwing that big of a lure, so wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this setup:
Shimano Curado 300 K Baitcast Reel Genesis III Casting Rod 7'10" Bama Rig Special Hvy PowerPro Braided Spectra Fiber Microfilament Line 300 Yards - Moss Green - 50 lb.
Also any suggestions on which lures/swimbaits you like best would help too.

Hated the A rig until I figured it out several years ago. Absolutely love it! Have had some magical days with it. Definitely use a heavy rod and reel. I go with 60# braid (Suffix). I use 1/8 oz jig heads from big bite baits since the hook is a big stronger but some like to throw lighter hooks so you can straighten them out and get your A rig back if you hang up. I use 3.8" paddle tails or 5" grubs.

My current setup is Shimano Curado 300 K Baitcast Reel Dobyns FR 806HSB Seaguar Red Label 20LB
Like it so far, I use it for A-rigs, S-waver, Megabass Magdrafts and Bacca Burritos.
Just an IT guy with a fishing addiction.

I use a Dobyns 784c HP and a GLoomis 903c MBR both with Daiwa Tatula Type R's with 40# braid. Normally use a 1/4 oz jig head on the bottom wire and 1/8oz on the other 3 and a weightless hook on the top wire. For me, using less weight lets me swim it slower and is easier to drag over all the submerged cedar on lakes around me.
