Just like I said - Hop, you didn’t answer the Mexico part of the question. You’re just giving advice based on stuff you read on the internet. I’ve read the same things he has and it surely made an impression on me.

I'm not leaving the USA....My buddy just came back from Belize, said it was cool. I still have no desire. I'd rather see my country from the road. Washington beaches suck and are dirty. Some day I'll see the east coast.

If someone asked me to recommend a non-beach destination in Mexico, it would be Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende.
I don’t care much for Mexico City. Have been many times. It’s not because of danger, but rather I’ve done all the touristy stuff years ago. Don’t care much for big congested cities like Mexico City or São Paulo Brazil. Because there are other places I would rather visit in those countries.
For major cities in Latin America, probably my two favorites are Santiago, Chile and Medellin, Colombia. Both are very safe. Just don’t do stupid stuff. Don’t do stupid stuff in Cleveland or any big USA city either.
There was talk about Detroit on here? The most dangerous thing about that city is boredom and lack of character. If you go looking for trouble, what you ought not to be doing, in any city, you can find it. Keep in mind that may lead to consequences.

Just tell her to visit Farmers Branch as a starter course to Mexican travel. That should change her mind and save her some money That’s humorous but in no way accurate.

I go to MC all the time and I’ve only been kidnapped twice. Just pay the ransom and be on your way. The last time was sketchy though, I won’t go into details. I hope your daughter loves her visit, it’s too die for.

When was the last time you were in Mexico or Central America?
went to central america about 15 times, costa rica, nicaragua, panama, was going to go to belize and look at property in 93 or so and backed out due to the crime rate. been a couple hundred miles into mexico 4-5 times back when you could do that and I lived in comfort, never had the urge to go to mexico city due to size, crime and nothing there that I had any interest in. traveled europe to the countries the navy would let me go to but always with a couple of buds, all of italy, swiss alps to ski once, germany for oktoberfest, flew to rota spain and spent 3 days there on liberty, almost made it to england but the mac flight got canceled. last trip was to costa rica in 08 as I had already booked and paid for it, blew out the knee in dec of 07 so that was my last trip. So I reread your post and you didn’t answer his question about the Mexico part at all. It sounds like you are sitting here giving strong advice to someone based on nothing but having read a bunch of Internet stories. I remember you being stuck in a trailer park in an RV up n Oklahoma on some hard luck situation back in about 2007 - 2010 or so. reread it, this time without your rose colored glasses. nice try tho
Reality. What a concept!

The perception of most of the opinions here are based on no experience.
When you go past the chaos of the border everything changes. If you’re in Monterrey the only clue you’re not in the US is the billboards. My brother lives in Merida, great place to visit.
I still do work in Mexico. I’ll be going to Chihuahua and Puebla in a couple weeks. The only thing different now is I don’t drive across any more.

You are only on this earth for such a short time. It's her wish, you have told her the dangers, be proud of her courage, tell her to send lots of pics. I go to Mexico Bass Fishing every year and listen to all the naysayers say this and that, and don't get me wrong, I do worry when I see some federallies pull up with machine guns mounted in the back of a vehicle, I don't have daughters or grand daughters, only boys, so I would be nervous as you are, but let it be and be proud, like a proud dad of a girl who rides horses. I'm more affraid of riding a horse than I am driving 6 hours down into lower Mexico with a bass boat in tow.

I go to Cancun about 3 trips per year, I stay away from the Hotel Zone even though they do have the better beaches. But there is usually a shooting on the public beach almost every trip I take there, something about rival drug gangs and territory. Mexico is what it is, I like the place and food and the people, but it's still has lots of corruption

Remember that fishing guide on here who got kidnapped a few years ago guiding out of Sugar Lake? If I did the Mexico bass trip, I would just fly in and use their boats and equipment

Put the danger aside. Mexico City can be dangerous, so just be careful where you stay and where you go out. Just know going to Mexico City and thinking you have seen Mexico at its best would be like going to New York City and believing you have seen America. There are so many other places to go in Mexico that offer more with far less crowds, pollution, traffic, and crime.
