I took my two kids and one of their friends to fish for blue gills at Joe Pool. I wasn't fishing myself so I could keep the bait ready and the fish on their lines. We were fishing on the boat ramps since the fish piers are under water. Thats when a boat comes in. Note there were four other ramps empty but they picked ours. So, I told the kids to pull in. That when a lady on the boat yelled at my kids, not me, to stop fishing on the ramp. She went to point out there is no fishing allowed to read the sign. I told the kids to pack the things because I didn't want them to see how things were going to get ugly. Once gone, I told that lady that the sign she was referring to is only a size limit sign and there is fishing allowed. The thing one needs to do is respect each other. Thats why I told the kids to pull their lines in. Though, I don't think I said it such a pleasant tone. Kids fishing!!! not doing drugs or tagging a wall--Fishing. The ladies husband didn't even come to her defense and the lady just shut up. I could understand if boats were coming and going but at 3:00 on a Thursday--please! Other people were asking how the kids were doing including the warden.

I commend you for taking the kids fishing. Some people have no couth. Sounds like the husband need a little backbone and a gagball or maybe a divorce! I am sorry your kids had to experience this.

Way to stick up for what's right. I mean, that lady didn't even know what the signs near the boat ramp said. Sounds like she was just looking for trouble. By the way, how'd the kids do?

I think my wife meet that lady in the boat once and punched her mouth shut!!! She started cussing at my 9yr old daughter (22 yrs ago) cause her line got crossed with this other womens line . My wife told my daughter to go back to cabin , then she knocked this foul mouth _____ on her butt ...

I have seen a lot of static at boat ramps, caused by Bass tournament guys parking everyone in so they could weigh their fish and people playing on plastic floating devices in the ramp and not moveing. Then add the first time launchers and the same people trying to get their new boat back on the trailer. Just being there is fun sometimes.

I've had so many bad experiences with people fishing off the boat docks I really don't bother trying to be nice anymore. 95% of the time I launch at the same ramp. 10 minutes away from my house. It has a big sign that says no fishing on the courtesy dock.
I can't count how many times I come in after dark, and there are 5 people on lawn chairs, coleman lanterns, coolers, etc... I always give them a chance to pull in their lines by idling 30-40 feet away. Some get the hint, most don't. I always ask them to pull in their lines so I don't run over them. Some don't. I've put up with being called names, people threatening me, and people trying to cast lures at me. I don't even bother anymore. I drive by the ramp and dock, and if I see anyone there, I call the cops. Wait for the cops to evict them and then I trailer.
I really don't care. The ramp and dock is there for boaters.

Well good for you sotw... However, I think in some cases you may be wrong... In this case and at Lake Arlington you can fish off them. The dock is there for use of the public and not just boaters.
I commend you Jlab, what kind of boat were they in I fish Pool alot, I think I know who they are and they think they own the lake.
I think you were within your right to use the dock since the piers are underwater and you can fish off those docks, I actually saw a park ranger tell a family they could fish there a few days ago. As for running over lines, well I respect them reagrdless and have on an occasion or two when fishing alone asked a lone dock fisherman to join me on the boat. Heck, I have the luxury to have a boat (not much) but why not share it sometime.
Life is too short to live it pissed off.

I don't think it's a problem to fish around the docks and ramps as long as you are respectful of everyone else. If a particular spot is busy, move and wait till traffic dies down. Be aware of what's going on/around the lake (tourney's, etc). Give everyone their space, don't leave a mess, help others in need, and enjoy yourself. This is something important my boys know and abide by; otherwise they will be swimming home.

I didn't think this would be a topic to talk about. I have to agree if the ramp is busy leave and come back later. Though, in our case it wasn't. I too, understand how it is when one is comming in and the ramps are filled with fishing lines. I hate when I have to take the prop off so I can cut out the line so my seal doesn't get ruined. Again, its all about respect and give each other the room, and this goes for boats or other bank fisherman. By the way the kids caught 10 blue gills in about an hour and many more lost.
