My Mother's parents were very poor. They never owned a home. My Grandmother never had a job or a driver's license. My Grandfather was a true "baker". Never read recipe, could crack open 2 eggs in each hand simultaneously. They moved around central Texas while my Grandfather struggled to keep a job, battling against changing timed and automated "progress." They lived for awhile in a small, white-washed house in Austin. I broke my left arm in the front yard of that house. I was looking through some old information and I came across the address to this house, so I looked it up on Google maps and then Zillow. This 925 square foot, 2Br/1Bath house, built in 1949 has undergone a little revamping. They are listing this house now for $769,000! That's about $830 a s/ft! No wonder I can't find a decently priced piece of property over there!

Take the money and leave

call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

My cousin and her husband sold their house and bought a little million dollar home in Dripping Springs. Not sure what they got for the house in Austin, but it paid off their mortgage and gave them $500,000. So, they are only half a million in debt. The market is nuts!

If you are talking about MY GRANDPARENTS, you're an absolute D.A. These people were born at the turn of the century. You wouldn't know a thing about what it was like being poor.

austin has never been "reasonable", when I was doing commercial jobs and living in comfort (the town, not financially) homes were at least 25% higher than s.a. and if you went to dripping springs or georgetown or any of the outlying burbs they were not much better.

everyone wants to live where the "money" is, austin is that place or was back then.

Unfortunately in this case it’s not. Imagine value of your home quadrupling with you left holding the tax bill. For no fault of your own and based on others bad decisions you will eventually be paying $2000 a month in taxes. I fail to see the good in that and it’s happening all around me. Now if I didn’t have to have a job and could just move in then fine but that’s not my situation.

I expect we will eventually see a push to go to state income taxes. Too many folks are being taxed out of their homes. There's no reason for your income to go up 2.5% per year but your tax bill and insurance to go up 10% per year.

I’ve heard this in the past, don’t see anything being done about it.
