Pappadeauxs in Arlington still serves some damn fine catfish, especially when you ask for it crispy and the kitchen is on point.

J.P., Vaughan's is good again. They sold the place maybe 12 years ago and it was BAD. It has been resold to what I heard was the family of the original owners and it is back to very good again. Give it a try again.

Flying fish quit using real farm raised channel cat and now uses Swai. Which is about the same as eating tilapia, poop eaters.
I don’t know about babes but suspect that Pappadeaux serves Swai also. It is a little mushy to me.

You’re right. I’ve noticed a lot of restaurants have changed descriptions on their menu from fried catfish to fried fish. I noticed it at Cheddars the other day. I will not eat tilapia, so my choices are being diminished. This fish called “Swai” is generally farm raised in Vietnam. I’ll pass.

Hooten Hollern in Whitney just says Fried Fish, but I know it's not Swai. It's nuggets and I think catfish nugget chunks, but could be another fish. Not Swai, though. That's what I believe Lisa's Chicken uses and calls it catfish.

We'll give it another try. I've heard a lot of people complain about their policy regarding getting a box for your food to take home. They said it feels like you are dealing with the Gestapo the way they monitor your leftovers. Hopefully that was the old owners.

They don't do the setup anymore.

That is what I looked forward to having us much or more than the catfish.

What is "the setup"?

I've always thought fried catfish was over rated. Tried a bunch of places here in Okie land and none of them was all that impressive. I'll take some small mouth fillets over catfish any day...:) Used to spend my summers in Weiser Idaho at my grandpa's ranch and fish the snake river all the time. Would bring back some nice small mouth and Grandma would fillet them up and that was some good eating.

Never had their catfish but every time I've been forced to eat there I pay way too much for average food. NOT A FAN , lots better seafood than that chain.

If you’re ever in Brazoria county near Angleton, Filipp’s cafe in Danbury makes some killer fried catfish. Shrimp too. I eat there 3-4 times a month. https://filipps-cafe.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral
