My son is playing in a golf tournament in New Orleans, and just sent me this picture.
Said it's a black squirrel... dunno, but have never seen a black squirrel, much less one with that long of a tail.
Maybe a marmot or some kind of weasel??
What do ya'll think?

We had a black squirrel like that in our back yard one summer in San Antonio. Rare, but they are out there.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Rayburn Country Subdivision is loaded with black squirrels. They are all over East Texas.

Thanks, Billy

We see rock squirrels in the hill country all the time. Just not entirely black like that overly melanistic one in the pic.

^^^ Yes, we call them rock squirrel. Had a buddy pay me $100 because he didn't believe there was a such a thing as a black squirrel.

Well apparently there are such things as black squirrels!
My son talked to the head greenskeeper there and he said it's because of the chemicals the spray for weed control and greenery...the squirrels eat the acorns that have been treated and it changes some of their furs colors.

Lotsa grey sqs, not as many black sqs as greys and we have red sqs up here in the Northwoods also. The black ones are goofy, never know which way they will run, and the red ones get shot on sight as they like to chew their way into attics.
Haven't seen a red one yet . . . .
