I learned on the dirt roads of East Texas. By the time I got my DL I had been driving quite a bit for 5 years. Drove my GM to Arkansas when I was 13 (Chrysler Newport with a push button shifter on the left hand dash).

Myself. I put many miles on an old Ford pickup with a 3 speed on the floor driving pasture roads and old country dirt roads. Took drivers ed in school because it was required to get insurance discount.

My Dad, pastures, and a lot of dirt roads. Got my license at 14 but had been driving since I was 11.

We had a really bad accident April 29, 1985 (it was my cousin's birthday) when I was 10. After that, I would get into the floorboard of the vehicles when we went somewhere because I was afraid of getting into another accident. That summer I was working with my father at a commercial build site in North Side. He told me to pull the truck forward to another area. There was a trailer attached to the truck because we were using a Ditch Witch to dig a trench...HOW was I supposed to know that you are supposed to put the ramps back on the trailer before moving the truck? I got my butt chewed up one side and back down the other for that one. After that, my mom taught me how to drive. So, at 10, I learned how to drive on the mean streets of Joshua....from the ages of 10 to 12 one of my parents or my grandmother had to be with me. From 12 to 14 one of my sisters could be with me...from 14 on, I've been driving the highways alone. I would NEVER allow a child of mine to drive in North Texas at this age, unless it was on a farm or something. People are nuts.

I guess mom did. Dad was much to busy to be interested in raising his son.

Funny thing, my oldest sister and I drive a lot like our mother did when we were growing up...and NOW Mom yells at us for driving too fast and taking chances. This woman jumped railroad tracks in a 1980 Datsun 210 station wagon with us riding in the car without seatbelts...but we're taking too many chances. Crazy woman.

My dad, on a small FM road in East Texas near the family farm. Drove a 1953 Chevy.

My dad did when I was 13. We drove a lot of miles together until I got learners permit, then I started driving my mother where ever she wanted to go. I probably had a couple of thousand miles under my belt before I took my driving test.
