The gentleman that I bought my boat from was running two batteries for a 12v trolling motor. I am going back to one battery. what would be ideal size and type? group 31? agm? wet cell? etc.

I'd go Lithium if you can afford. Second choice would be group 31 AGM.

If used for just putting around a small pond then any wet cell group 29 will do. If venturing into larger waters consider staying with 2 batteries or a 100amp or larger lithium.

Are you running it all day along the banks? If so, pony up and pay for the good stuff. I only use mine to go from one tree to the next, and have a maintainer on it when in storage, therefore I run a cheap everstart. All depends on what your use is!

Are you going to be bass fishing all day or just use the trolling motor from time to time? Type and size of boat and the intended use matter. I have always ran 2 27’s for my rigs but I was bass fishing and using the trolling motor.
