Anyone else have to go thru all the BS to get tags for a trailer you have bought with only a bill of sale lately ? What a night mare .

I don’t believe I have ever had a title for a boat trailer, only registration. You do have to have a boat and a motor title.

Not anymore, now if it has not been registered you can no longer call it home made . You have to get a appointment with your local police task force and let them check it for I’d numbers or as stolen and get a temp tag to haul it there . $ 40 bucks . Then go get a certificate of weight, then go get a trailer sales place to give you a apraxel for how much it’s worth . Then take it to one of the main Texas DMV offices. They then give you the paperwork to take to a insurance office to get a bonded title. Then you can take that to you local tax office to get plates !

In Alabama, your annual boat registration fee includes your boat trailer. No license tag is required.

Like I said BS ! Oh and make sure you have a bill of sale . I even call the office in Ft Worth yesterday before I took my weight and paper work from the task force. Waited 2 hours to find out I need paperwork for the appraisal that the failed to tell me on the phone before I went .

Yes, and it is a major PIA.

If your trailer is a non-titled vehicle all you need is a bill of sale. I just sold one.

It looked like a PIA so I paid someone to do it. They do all of the paperwork and find an off duty police officer to come to you. Best $400 that I ever spent

In Alabama, your annual boat registration fee includes your boat trailer. No license tag is required. I am guessing it is the same way in LA. I bought my boat in LA and while it did have a title for the trailer it never had a plate on it. The homemade trailer thing must only apply to new registrations. I got my renewal notice and nothing about getting a serial number.

Anyone else have to go thru all the BS to get tags for a trailer you have bought with only a bill of sale lately ? What a night mare . I traded my legally-TX-Registered 12' boat, motor and trailer (from Southern OK) to another TFF'er for a rifle. Never heard from him again so I am assuming it was all good. BUT it took me 6+ months to prove its TX legitimacy . . . and get the TX paperwork in order. Fast forward to my purchase of a house on 3/4 acre of dirt here in WI. There was a 14' Starcraft "car-top" boat, a trailer to fit, and a 15hp Sears Gamefisher motor on the property the day I closed . Legally abandoned here in 'merica, they all cost me ~$45.00 to become legal owner and register the boat for 3 years in my name. Trailer does not need registration or plates, motor does not need a Title, all it takes is for me to show my WI DNR "Go Wild" card to a LEO or Game Warden and they can pull up all of my "stuff" via 4 or 5g LTE on their wi-fi handheld device. 'merica . . . . I love it here . . . .
