Yep, clean the gasket holes up really well and make sure the old gasket came out well. If it’s those paper gaskets then they’ll stick on there really well, you could even try putting a bit of brake cleaner on a paper towel to get any residue off like when you clean a gasket off on a differential on a car. Always replace the gaskets if they’re those little paper ones. There are only two screws right? One on the bottom of the unit and one on the top?

This may seem like a dumb question, but, did you use a standard 90w conventional marine gear oil? Quicksilver, west marine, type stuff? If you used a synthetic or syn blend substitute theres always a slight chance the synthetic is thinner than what was originally used and could cause some leaks around seals.

When you change gear lube you take out both the upper and lower screws out.

When you fill it up with lube, keep the lower unit level and fill till fluid comes out the top hole.
Once you do that there should not be any fluid coming out either of the holes. If there is you need a new gasket and while you're at it check the fluid again because you may have gotten water in the lower unit.

fish thanksguys for your input. I been using 90wt quicksilver. I have changed it myself for at least 4yrs. I got old gaskets off plugs. Gonna look at it fri or sat. Probably go ahead & change gaskets again, and see how much 90 wt it takes to start comin out top hole. Outta tell me how much is gone. It has only been 3 weeks most
